Ocean Sunset Art Project
I’ve seen lots of versions of this project online and it was such a fun one to try with my students. It’s the perfect opportunity to practice ruler skills.
Time required: 45-60 minutes
Materials:
White paper
Pencil & eraser
Sharpie
Ruler
Watercolour paints (I use tempera pucks)
Steps:
Draw 3 wavy lines for the water (horizontal orientation).
Draw half a circle in the middle of the page, above the water for the sun.
Use a ruler to draw diagonal lines from the sun to the edge of the paper. Make sure to leave space between them, we don’t want them too close together.
Trace with a Sharpie and erase pencil lines.
Paint the scene using watercolour paints.
Generally we did warm and cool colours, though students were allowed to use purple in their sun rays as the sky sometimes gives that pinkish-purple colour.
