Pepper Chase Science Experiment

This is a physics experiment that uses surface tension.

Materials:

  • 1 pie plate

  • Liquid dish soap

  • Pepper

  • Sugar

  • 1⁄4 tsp measuring spoon

Procedure:

  • Fill the pie plate half full of water.

  • Sprinkle 1⁄4 tsp pepper on the surface of the water. Don’t mix it in. What happens to the pepper?

  • Dab some liquid dish soap on the end of your finger and place your finger in the water. What happens to the pepper?

  • Now sprinkle 1⁄4 tsp sugar on the water. What happens to the sugar and water now?
