Songs for Primary French Immersion

As French Immersion teachers, we know how valuable it is to sing. It’s a great way to practice pronunciation, vocabulary and get our students excited about learning French.

This list has a range of easier to harder songs. I taught some of these to my kindergarten students and also to 2/3s so it really is a K-3 list. You know your students best so if they enjoy singing, who says a song has to be for one grade or another. Some of these easier ones are their favourites because they can so easily pick them up and they get very good at singing them.

There are some months with very thematic songs that should be taught in that timeframe but there are many others that could be taught anytime during the year.

I tend to teach 2-3 songs per month but my students like to revisit ones we’ve learned. We sing them during our morning routine* and they are an excellent filler activity when you’re waiting for a presentation, special guest or have a few awkward minutes.

Below I have added YouTube links to the songs where possible.

*disclaimer: I did not make these videos, and there are couple with typos in the lyrics so make sure to note that with your students.
